Entertainment Weekly has an interesting list of the top 25 controversial films of all time. One thing that struck me about this list is the fact that so few recent films are deemed 'controversial'. Although I'm sure we all could come up with examples to the contrary, it seems like films don't take many risks anymore. They are great at aweing us, but don't stir the shit pot very often.

I think it might be harder to stir the pot these days. Seems like we've seen it all and we're used to having our buttons pushed. I mean, would 'the Warriors' even get more than a giggle if it were released now?
The Brown Bunny made waves a few years back, when it apparently showed Chloë Sevigny sucking the poison out of Vincent Gallo's trouser snake.

It's true, our culture has become more sensitive to political incorrectness than any amount or sort of on-screen violence.
I went to see The Mist. I was offended by the time and money I wasted on it. I think it should become controversial to charge money for such crap.
Damn, I was hoping The Mist would be good.
