Shockwave 3D First-Person Shooter!

Wow. I just saw this today, courtesy of Download Squad. The good people at rasterwerks have given us Phosphor, a first-person shooter created with Macromedia Director. Get your frag on using the Shockwave Player in your favorite browser (although there may be issues with Firefox 1.5). Works for both Windows and Mac OS, single and multi-player. It's still in beta and there's only one map available, but daaaaaaaaamn.

Play it here.

Superman Is A Dick

In honor of Superman Returns (which I think premieres on June 30, 2006), I present this HI-larious site that features all the bizarre bait & switch covers from various Superman spin-off comics. Hey, they had to do something to get the kids to buy Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen. How exciting could Jimmy's life be, after all?

Superman: "Jimmy, this gift you got me for Father's Day makes me sorry I ever adopted you as my son. I'll have to destroy it to teach you a lesson!" (Click the image.)

What a dick.

Bob Mould, Ohio, and other things

I feel old and sad.... I should be queing up to see Bob Mould solo acoustic tonight at Cat's Cradle in Carborro (Chapel Hill). Instead I'm making enchiladas and staying home. Tix are $15, which is totally reasonable for someone like Bob, but I'm leaving Wednesday for a solo road trip and money is an issue.

I'm going to Ohio fellas, for the first time in my life (unless you count that time I was coming back from Paris and had to change planes in Cincinnati. There were drug sniffing dogs checking out our luggage and I was suffering from a terrible bout of diarreah. But I digress....). I'm going to see old bandmate John Davis (aka Truck Manworthy) whom I've not seen in seven or eight years. He lives in Columbus. I needed someplace to go that was within a one day drive (sorry Memphis!) and figured it would be fun to see a 'new' state. After that its over to D.C. to see the charming Andy Hetherington and then back south to Durham.

But back to Bob.... is my failure to get out of the house and see him because I'm old and dull? God I hope not. If Joe can muster up the strength to see the Go-Gos, surely I can pull myself together? To be continued.......

Go-go music really makes us dance

So we went and saw the Go-Gos last night... I have to admit I was a little bit reluctant, but Kara got tix and set it all up, so what could I do? But man, they rocked. They played 'Beauty and the Beat' in its original running order, then tacked on the other hits. It's pretty clear Charlotte Caffey's doing all the work, and Belinda Carlisle's voice was giving out by the end, but it was a fun show. Shameless pop. It kind of makes me want to get 'God Bless the Go-Go's'. Kind of.

Opening band the Stimulators suuuucked.

Oh, and some asshole brought along the Belinda Playboy issue and kept holding it up. She eventually said 'Hey, put that down,' and he did.

Carbon/Silicon

Was anybody else aware that Mick Jones (Clash, Big Audio Dynamite) and Tony James (Generation X, Sigue Sigue Sputnick) formed a band called Carbon/Silicon a couple years ago? Where the hell have I been? The good news is, the music is available for free download on the Carbon/Silicon site. The bad news is, they're best work is behind them. Still, it's interesting listening, if for no other reason than that it involves two British punk legends ...

Visit the Carbon/Silicon site.

This ... Is ...

This is fascinating!

OK I'm in....

I told Jay I'd do this on three conditions:

1) That there be no more than two conditions
2) That the first condition would be ignored completely
3) That there were no conditions

Gentlemen, start your overhyped imaginations.

Disarm the settlers
The new drunk drivers
Have hoisted the flag
We are with you in your anger
Proud brothers
Do not fret
The bus will get you there yet
To carry us to the lake
The club is open
Yeah, the club is open
Hey, the club is open
A-come on, come on, the club is open
C'mon, c'mon, the club is open
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, the club is open ...
