I Never Travel Far..

..without a little Big Star. Had about 12 hours of drive time and filled much of it with #1 Record/Radio City and Third/Sister Lovers. It was great listening to all of that straight through, with colorful Fall trees bordering my path. Happy to be home again now, with a partially renovated bathroom and a pillow on a first-name basis with my big, empty head. There's no place like home (shoes tap twice), there's no place like home.

I opine that "#1 Record/Radio City" is a better driving record than "Third/Sister Lovers." Unless you're driving off a bridge.

Welcome back, Lurker.

Ha ha ha ha

Amazingly, Kram has Alex Chilton's cell phone number, and has actually called him on occasion.

Even more amazingly, Chilton has called Kram!

Mr. Nika told me a funny story at band practice last summer. Chilton was in town one night eating dinner where Kram works and the topic of Big Star came up. Chilton sat quietly for a minute and then, in his syrupy, Old Memphis drawl, said, "I'll be honest with you Mark: I don't see what the big deal is ..."

I love it! Great story. I know I've told you guys before about Anthony's band Soup Chain (members: Anthony, Soup Chain- a very Kramesque figure from the N.O. scene). He offered to record a demo for them. They showed up at his house, set up, he pressed 'play' and 'record' on his 4 track and promptly took a nap on his couch while they wailed away.

Joe, true about the 2 Big Star albums! Cool about Kram and Chilton. Alex is one guy I'd really love to meet, or at least have him pointed out in a restaurant and just watch him for a bit. I was about to say I never meet cool celebrities, but I did see Fonzie in the Phoenix airport, I guess you can't get a lot cooler than that. He jumped the shark after all.

Wait, is jumping the shark good or bad?
