The Great iPod Experiment

All right, its time for some truth and honesty. And lists. Next time you're listening to your iPod thingamajiggy, list the first five songs that come up when you random shuffle. Should be........ illuminating. I'll martyr myself first.

1. Flop - Regrets
2. The Byrds - All I Really Want to Do
3. Springsteen - Gypsy Biker
4. Ray Davies - Hymn for a New Age
5. Simon and Garfunkel - The Boxer

Not too shameful! Thank God certain numbers chose not to appear. This time.

These are from the Windows Media Player at my goddamjob. My iPod has languished since I quit having to walk across campus all the time.

1. Little Miss Understood by, erm, Rod Stewart (damn!)
2. Hear You Been To College - the Mats
3. Morphine Song - Ray Davies
4. Tonight (We'll Make Love 'Till We Die) - SST
5. The Package - Perfect Circle

Hell, I don't even own an ipod. I have figured out that my blackberry can be used as an mp3 player, but it only has a half dozen albums on it (including he excellent Whigs), which defeats the point rather. So, like Joe, this from my WMP at work -- which could have been deeply embarassing, as it has virtually all my CDs on it.

1. Banquet - Bloc Party
2. Pruno - Stone Temple Pilots
3. California Waiting - Kings of Leon
4. You are what you Love - Jenny Lewis
5. One Big Holiday - My Morning jacket.

I haven't listened to STP in years, but overall I would not be displeased if those 5 came on the radio on a long drive.

I have an iPod Mini that I listen to when I work out or cut the grass. (Or make lists like this ...)

1. The Bleeding Heart Show - The New Pornographers
2. Karma Police - Radiohead
3. One For My Baby (And One More For The Road) - Frank Sinatra
4. Rock The Casbah - The Clash
5. I Get A Kick Out Of You - Frank Sinatra (AGAIN?!)

Yahoo Music Match (no ipOd either):

1. Chicago - Sufjan Stevens
2. Use Your Head - John Huss Moderate Combo
3. Song for Sunshine - Belle & Sebastian
4. Helplessly Hoping - Crosby, Stills and Nash.
5. Slave - Rolling Stones

Interesting experiment. So, what are the 5 artists you're glad did not show up that could have?

Me:

Aimee Mann
Air Supply
Cher
Rihanna (for a CD for my niece, I swear to you!)
Mitch Miller and the Gang

I LOVE this, I'm listening to tracks I haven't played in ages! Going to keep randomizing for a while and see what else I discover.
