For No Reason In Particular ...

It's a shout out to one of my favorite author/illustrators, Edward Gorey. With a link to one of my favorite books, The Gashlycrumb Tinies. Anybody else feel the love?

Man, I love me some Gorey. I think my favorite is The Object-Lesson. Gashlycrumb is elegant and succinct, great stuff!

We are also proud owners of the Tinies. Great stuff.

One of my fondest memories of this book involves a showing of original artwork from classic children's books at the Brooks Museum of Art. (One of you bastards may have been with me, I can't remember anymore.)

Inexplicably, Gashlycrumb was also featured, and I happened to overhear a mom reading the captions to her young son as we made our way around the gallery.

"B is for Basil ..." she began, her voice suddenly trailing off. "B is for Basil," she reiterated, and they moved to the next piece.

Ha ha. I read this one to my kids many times. They liked the 'Epiplectic Bicycle' more for some reason. Kids.

Great story of the mom reading the captions aloud!
