Paul Newman was the absolute epitome of cool in my book. Every public aspect of his life, from his acting to his humanitarian efforts, were first class all the way. He once quipped to Maureen Dowd that he feared his epitaph might read, "Here lies Paul Newman. He died a failure because his eyes turned brown." Not by a long shot. For Slap Shot alone he deserves film canonization, and that's not to mention Hud, The Hudsucker Proxy, Cool Hand Luke, The Verdict, Road to Perdition, and countless others.

Amen. Truly one of the greats.
One of the absolute greatest, as you pointed out, in every aspect of his life. Coolest of the cool.
Name your favorite Newman movie. Or top five.
Slap Shot
The Hustler
The Color of Money
The Verdict
The Sting
Hud
Cool Hand Luke
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Man, I can't decide. I like all the films above.
I'm with Dave. His movies from the 60s and 70s are just too numerous and good to whittle down to 5. Even the ones that weren't good, he was good in. Of the later ones, I really liked 'Road to Perdition,' and 'Nobody's Fool.' And of course, 'Cars.'
'Fort Apache, The Bronx' was also a really good movie.
