Here We Rest

Jason Isbell's third solo effort continues the melodic Americana tradition of his first two with some Muscle Shoals soul thrown in. Like his first two, this is a pretty mixed bag, with a couple of sublime moments ("Codeine"), but still too many tepid shufflers ("Stopping By"). I've enjoyed it so far, but still feel like I'm waiting for a breakthrough from Isbell as a solo artist and am beginning to wonder if he lacks some versatility in his songwriting and is showing some limitations in his singing. Nice album art, though... Flee The Past.
