Former Lives

So Ben Gibbard, beloved leader of Death Cab for Cutie, courted and married alterna-it-girl Zooey Deschanel. Then they got divorced. Then he wrote this album. Kind of like Beck's Sea Change for the 2010s, but not nearly as depressing. Great pop songwriting. For The Pop lovers amongst us, a real treat.

Tell me what you guys think of this. I'm not a DCFC fan per se, as I'm only familiar with their stuff through soundtracks and random tracks. I really like this album though.

Thanks, I'll out myself as a fellow not-the-biggest-DCFC-fan. College DJ's here seem required to worship this band. Blarf.

Anyway, I love it when someone I could previously barely tolerate comes up with something cool. I'll give it a go.

I have to admit that I'm a Death Cab fan. I enjoyed this one, but I was hoping for something a bit meaner. It's a nice listen, but I found myself going back to Codes & Keys and Narrow Stairs, whereas I don't think this one will remain in heavy rotation for very long. It certainly isn't in the league Sea Change or Blood on the Tracks as far as heartbreak / break-up albums. Of course, that would be asking a lot.
