I had a student in Bulgaria who carried on a brief correspondence (a couple of letters back and forth) with him back in the early-mid 90's. She didn't think much of it that he would write her back. I told her to save the letters b/c they would be very valuable someday. I hope she still has them.
The sentiment is a cliche, but Catcher was the exact right book at the exact right time for me. Didn't make me want to kill anyone, but I adored the book and read it several times in my early 20s.
