Deservedly overshadowed by The Riverboat Gamblers, Green Day did release a new CD last weekend. I don't think it's as iconic as American Idiot, but it's not bad, For Testing Purposes.
Okay, spot the influences! When they're trying not to sound like Green Day, I'm hearing a lot of seventies-era McCartney and maybe even some ELO in the mix.
The Chorus of 21 Guns is basically 'All the Young Dudes'. They did a lot of that on AI too (by 'that', I mean coming thiiiiiis close to some blatant copycat stuff) but tend to incorporate it effectively so it sounds familiar without being a rip off.

I picked this up last week and I quite like it. I've only listened through once so far, but I already get some of the tunes stuck in my head.
American Idiot was hit or miss, but I was this close to buying this one on Amazon.
Thanks, Mike!

Anybody else?
So is Billy Joe turning into Pete
Townshend?

I missed that one. Good call, Dave!
