Worst. President. Ever.

Check out this seven page article over at Salon.com, an excerpt from Sidney Blumenthal's new book. It's a good summation of what a disaster Bush's presidency has been, and why.

Here's a chunk:

"Bush's presidency was uniquely radical in its elevation of absolute executive power, dismissal of the other branches of government, contempt for law, dominant power of the vice president, networks of ideological cadres, principle of unaccountability, stifling of internal debate, reliance on one-party rule, and overtly political use of war. Never before had a president shown disdain for science and sought to batter down the wall of separation between church and state. None of it seemed in the offing upon Bush's inauguration in 2001. Yet these actions were not sudden impulses, spontaneous reactions or accidental gestures. They were based on deliberate decisions intended to change the presidency and government fundamentally and forever. And these decisions had deep historical roots."

Read it here, if you wankers are still alive.

He's OUR PRESIDENT, Jay! It's a very very bad thing to question the judgment of OUR PRESIDENT during a time of war. Maybe you should watch what you say, Jay.

Please forgive the temporary lapse in my usual sound judgment. From now on, I promise to remember that holding our government accountable and questioning their course of action and motives is tantamount to treason, bordering on heresy.

It does seem like more and more people are beginning to call them on their bullshit, though.

I'm late to the party, but I think its great that many conservative Americans are already saying that the Bush presidency will be judged harshly by history. Its as if they are already getting it out of the way because they know what a suckwad he (and by extension, his administration) is. Presidencies are successful or not largely based on the individuals the president surrounds himself with. This is one reason why Clinton and Reagan's presidencies are viewed as being 'successful'. Bush on the other hand, surrounded himself with evil, evil people, or simply incompetent people. Still, his ridiculous extreme loyalty to toadies like Rove and Rumsfeld make him a spectacularly inept administrator. Bush has ruined every business he has ever been connected with. Why should the country be any different?
