Goddamn Morrissey

Pulled in its entirety from The A.V. Club (because it's hilarious) ...

Morrissey has cancelled his upcoming South American tour, citing a lock of proper funding. The mope rock singer posted an open letter lamenting the tour’s tanking and the state of his life in general, saying, like only Morrissey can:

“In a year when far too many disappointments have been buried this really is the last of many final straws, and I am not alone in feeling this. The future is suddenly absent, and my apologies are now so frequent as to be somewhat ridiculous, and it is I who apologize because no one else would bother. It is agonizing to be responsible for imparting such news - especially when it springs upon me unexpectedly and inexplicably. But the collapse of South America rings the curtain down with a colossal thud, and the major problems remain as insoluble now as they were in 2009. The obvious conclusion stares back at me from the mirror, and the wheels are finally off the covered wagon. Cancellations and illness have sucked the life out of all of us, and the only sensible solution seems to be the art of doing nothing.”

The singer ends his by saying, “I shall see you in my dreams,” whatever that means. If you see Morrissey, give him a hug.

Myspace song updates

I've retired my tired old Christmas offerings and put up a fresh slew of songs.

Tricky: This one, from the SMASH HIT Anyface album DUCT TAPE SOUL dates back to Spokane days. An angry kiss-off song to someone I can't even remember. Sorry Jay, I went for the 'produced' Anyface version instead of the 'raw and charming' Pophead version.

For No One: This song, from the SMASH HIT solo album LOUNGE is my scratchy, pitchy take on a Lennon/McCartney classic. Campagna really knows how to handle his organ, doesn't he?

Welcome to my World: This song, from the RARELY HEARD album WISE UP is a hodge-podge mess with an ultimately hummable melody. Which was almost completely stolen from the far-superior Parasites. Thanks to Marcus on this one. Paul beats on a pot for a good 2:30.

Heavy Patting: This song, from the 4000 HOLES RELEASE Pophead was a topical dig at Pat Buchanan. When he was running for President. In 1992. Uhhhhh.....anyway, I've always been proud of the fact that Jay, Sean and I nailed this live in the studio, no overdubs, after about 20 beers apiece. Stick around for the circus interlude won't you?

And Lurker, I haven't forgotten your 'best of' comp- just waiting for a couple of new mp3s to come down the pike.

Big Thought Malaise

Nothing makes us faded rock guys think the Big Thoughts like giving interviews.

Okay, I'm only half-kidding.

Kram and I sat down with Chris Davis (The Memphis Flyer) yesterday, and I must say, I sounded like a fucking moron. It's one of my insecurities, but I HATE talking about myself under any circumstances. I especially hate talking about myself to a local paper. Does anyone honestly care? Even as the words were coming out of my mouth, my brain was screaming, "No, you idiot! You're removing all doubt!"

It beggars (buggers?) belief that anyone still gives a shit about this train wreck of a band, and it's a tad humiliating as I draw a bead on 40 that my one great achievement (besides producing my children) was getting drunk and jumping around a filthy stage like an epileptic monkey. Interviews just bring that into focus, especially as that's all we end up talking about.

I'm having a great time catching up with Kram - now that he's Kram again - and relearning the songs has been a fun challenge, but this experience is reminding me of why I quit in the first place. Now I just want to hang around the house and play with my kids. What emotional deficiency made me feel the need to perform in front of others in the first place? It wasn't all about showing off for girls, was it?

I wonder what size smoking jacket I wear.....

My interview with John Wesley Harding for Being There, a pop culture online mag from Toronto, is finally up- and I got the 'cover'! Read the interview here and then dump buckets of praise on me for my hard-hitting, in-depth interview style. Boy can I make 'em squirm.
