Shit

Billy Jack (Tom Laughlin) dead at 82.  Anybody remember those movies?  "Billy Jack’s Crusade To End The War In Iraq And Restore America To Its Moral Purpose" was probably my favorite.

I must have watched the first one about six thousand times in the early cable days.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor; go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of heaven; you can justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowin' come the judgment day
On the bloody morning after, one tin soldier rides away

I've never seen any of these films, and so feel my typical late-to-the-party shame. But I DO try to live my life as "an ill-tempered, karate-chopping pacifist", so hopefully that makes up for it.

My favorite quote on his passing is the one from The Onion's A.V. Club I posted on G+, which I'll copy here because you bastards can't be bothered.

"Billy Jack also provided a rough template for the TV series Kung Fu, whose half-Chinese hero (David Carradine) was forever expressing his deep regret at being forced to use his martial arts fighting skills to kick some bully’s ass through his hat."

And both Billy Jack and The Trial of Billy Jack are available on Netflix. The one Joe mentioned never got made.

I still listen to One Tin Soldier regularly. It was a very, very early 45 of mine. Sniff.
