The Tennessee state legislature - a deep well of unintentional comedy - continues in the fine tradition of the
Butler Act (think
Scopes Monkey Trial). A state senator has crafted the
Don't Say 'Gay' Bill. This would prohibit teachers from discussing homosexuality from grades K-8.
It has been repeatedly delayed from discussion on the Senate floor, and there is thought to be little chance it could pass both houses. Still....
Students appear to demonstrate more sense than the legislature, and are
rallying against it.

But see, Eric, they didn't talk about the gays back in the '50s, and there weren't any then, so it's a simple solution, really. Just think, man!
They are avoiding debate because that would mean saying 'gay' on the Senate floor which would be a bad example for school children everywhere.
