Shark Week on the Discovery channel pretty much blows. Turns out they faked a whole show. Sensationalized bullshit. This from the network that has a show about fishing with vaginas. Did you hear what I said? Fishing. With. Vagina. Setting my DVR. On a more positive note, Nat Geo Wild is doing shark week right.

Siskel & Ebert Bicker
I saw this years ago and was reminded of it by Eric's post. However you remember Ebert, don't ever think of him as having been cuddly.

Photoshop, Can I Hug You?
ABC News Denver ran a story about General Petraeus and his biographer with the above image of his book - taken from the internets, with loose editorial oversight. Story here.

A Holiday Message From Ricky Gervais
Why don’t you believe in God? I get that question all the time. I always try to give a sensitive, reasoned answer. This is usually awkward, time consuming and pointless. People who believe in God don’t need proof of his existence, and they certainly don’t want evidence to the contrary. They are happy with their belief. They even say things like “it’s true to me” and “it’s faith.” I still give my logical answer because I feel that not being honest would be patronizing and impolite. It is ironic therefore that “I don’t believe in God because there is absolutely no scientific evidence for his existence and from what I’ve heard the very definition is a logical impossibility in this known universe,” comes across as both patronizing and impolite.Read the rest of The Wall Street Journal article here.

Stare Dad Comics
Ok, these are completely fucked up, but they make you laugh in a demented sort of way. Basically, this cartoon started it all, and now people use the graphics and add their own captions. The poor little boy comes to his dad with a problem. Dad can't be bothered and he stares him down. Hilarity ensues. The result is an example of demented parenting... or hours of fun.

Do you know what captcha is? Me either. We see this stuff every day. Now someone with a lot of spare time has put it to use and called it art. What say you bastards?

One Of My Favorite Mats Moments
Here's the Replacements playing "Talent Show" on the short-lived International Rock Awards in May of 19 and 89. The network censors were aware of the lyric, "we're feelin' good from the pills we took," so the button was pushed and the offending line was cut. (You see Westerberg roll his eyes when it happens, but I don't know if he actually heard it or just knew that he would be censored.) To exact his revenge, instead of singing "too late to turn back, here we go" at the end of the song, Westy sings "too late to take pills, here we go" - not once, but three times - and every one makes it by the censors. God, I loved this band ...
Anyway, there's also this.
