Shit

We were just lamenting how we still miss George Carlin, and now another voice who was noted for 'telling it like it is' is gone. Gil Scott Heron, dead at 62. Do yourself a favor and give eight minutes of your life to listen to this.

Top Twenty Radiohead covers, all downloadable

Stereogum is offering downloads of Radiohead doing covers. I understand there are some fans amongst the Bastardry.

This will tend to make you very high

Any of you stooges ever seen "Withnail and I?" Other than Jay, I mean? If not, do yourself a favor.

Seriously?

People expressing outrage over stories from the Onion on Facebook. Sigh...

Vincentennial

St. Louis is hosting a week-long celebration of Vincent Price, including film screenings. About Tim Burton's "Vincent", Price praised it "the most gratifying thing that ever happened. It was immortality – better than a star on Hollywood Boulevard".
Lurker, are you watching?

To Answer Eric's Question ...

Here's Conan's list of shitty DC superheroes.

American Beauty

Too bad Jay's not a Deadhead...

Watching the operation

Not sure why the cool Marvel heroes are mingling with the DC losers, but I liked the picture.

That's all I got.

Happy 70th Zimmy!

Joe, I hope you're blaring his entire catalog out some car-mounted speakers everywhere you go today. Cause that's how we do it.

An Examination of Stanley Kubrick’s ‘A Clockwork Orange’

Malcom McDowell and Anthony Burgess discuss the book and film about a year after the movie's release. You could do worse.

I Miss Carlin

This was true 100 years ago and it will still be true 100 years from now. It'll just be worse ...

So you've got some time to waste, eh...

This site and its multitude of trivia games and music quizzes keeps me occupied when the kids are testing. Careful: heavy addiction warning.

Hot Hot Hype

I'm such a slut for trailers. Especially with first-album Cars in the soundtrack. My movie dolla dolla bill goes to this before Thor or X-men.

Eric will understand

The 1980 school year at Northwood Junior High was somewhat truncated. Can't remember why.

Pop Pilgrims

The A.V. Club has a new series in which Brian Berrebbi & company travel to pop culture landmarks. (Can you guess what it's called?) Last week was Fox (Nakatomi) Plaza from Die Hard. This week it's United Methodist Church from The Graduate. Pretty cool ...

Oh, the site is here.

Ouch

This one's hitting a little too close to home today.

Freedom Riders

Anybody going to watch this? A little known fact: my cousin, Ray Arsenault, literally wrote the book on the Freedom riders, and by that I mean the book that this series is based on. He has been on Fresh Air, and was recently on Oprah, and my guess is he will get airtime in this. All kinfolk boasting aside, it does look like an interesting documentary.

They're At It Again

The Tennessee state legislature - a deep well of unintentional comedy - continues in the fine tradition of the Butler Act (think Scopes Monkey Trial).
A state senator has crafted the Don't Say 'Gay' Bill. This would prohibit teachers from discussing homosexuality from grades K-8.
It has been repeatedly delayed from discussion on the Senate floor, and there is thought to be little chance it could pass both houses. Still....
Students appear to demonstrate more sense than the legislature, and are rallying against it.

Coal Play: Irony-Free Medicine

Children: meet Puff and Ash, the inhaler and the lump of coal. Brought to you by Peabody Energy, the world's largest private sector coal company. If you live within 200 miles of a coal plant, they'll get you a customized holder for your inhaler. And I know how we all love Biebs:

Peace and Health to our Memphis Bastard Brothers

Seems that horrible flooding has been a common denominator between New Orleans, Nashville, and Memphis. Hope my Memphibian brothers are A-OK.

X-Men: First Class. This has potential ...

¡Happy Cinco de Drunko!

I know some los bastardos who need to celebrate their Mexican heritage. And revel in their holiday stories.

I normally don't fall for the Jesus on Toast stuff, but sometimes you just have to believe. I'll be making Milwaukee famous for the rest of the week. Try to keep the place up, willya?

Helplessness Blues

Fleet Foxes Third Platter. Actually second, but that doesn't start with a T.

What Does That Even Mean?

In this context, I mean.

Healthwatch

Wanted to take a minute to advocate against smorking, as I'm sure there's pressure on all of us to smork. My mentor - Dr Nick Riviera - warns us of its ill effects: bonus eruptus and eyebrow dilation, among others. Hope no bastard is a smorking casualty.
