This Is Kinda Cool

From the YouTube description:

Here's Linda Blair's actual performance as recorded on set, followed by the same scenes dubbed by the great Mercedes McCambridge in the released film. From the Associated Press: McCambridge was hired to portray The Demon in William Friedkin's 1973 smash hit The Exorcist. After weeks of what she called the hardest work she had done for a film, she had been promised prominent mention in the credits. But when she attended the preview, her name was missing. As she left the theater in tears, Friedkin tried to explain that there had been no time to insert her credit. The Screen Actors Guild intervened and forced her inclusion in the credits.

Stare Dad Comics

Ok, these are completely fucked up, but they make you laugh in a demented sort of way. Basically, this cartoon started it all, and now people use the graphics and add their own captions. The poor little boy comes to his dad with a problem. Dad can't be bothered and he stares him down. Hilarity ensues. The result is an example of demented parenting... or hours of fun.

So sad.  Let's keep these unfortunate children in our hearts and minds as we head into the weekend.

Yikes

Anybody remember the Salem's Lot miniseries? This guy scared the guacamole out of the ten-year-old me.

Where the Wild Things Are

Anyone else seen this? I found it to be quite excellent. Spike Jonze has gone for a sun-dappled, washed out look that manages to illuminate and make you feel cold at the same time. I felt like it really captures the particular melancholy that is present in childhood. In fact, the movie isn't a children's movie at all- it's a movie about children, an important distinction in helping to decide whether or not your little ones will like it. On the con side, it dragged a bit, but the overall look and ideas made up for it for me.

Jim Carroll

First To Play 'Catholic Boy' and 'Dry Dreams (vinyl rip)' will enjoy. I have a greatest hits comp, but it won't rip for some reason and it really doesn't have anything these two don't (Jay actually gave it to me as a gift one year, funnily enough).

I remember reading an interview with Joe Strummer where he talked about he and Pete Townshend sitting in an apartment listening to 'Catholic Boy' and going nuts about how great it was and how it didn't sound like anybody else out there. You will recognize 'People Who Died' from its being covered by a million bands (Drive-by Truckers included) and playing in a handful of films, including 'Basketball Diaries' and one of the Living Dead movies.

My favorite by him is 'It's Too Late,' which is below.

One More

The wife and I were discussing the previous posts about things that scared the bejesus out of us as kids, and she brought up this one, the trailer for Beyond The Door, which inexplicably ran during prime time. Somehow I missed it, but it's pretty scary now.

Speaking Of Bigfoot And Terrified Children

This series, particularly this episode, scared the living shit out of the eight year old me. Anybody else watch In Search Of when we were kids?

Another episode, which led me to believe that I only had a few years to live, can be found below ...
