God Bless the USA

Nothing says Amurica like a bald eagle flying in a church full of God-fearin' people chanting U-S-A U-S-A! Then it went wrong. I feel bad for bird though. Apparently he's ok. Is it just me or would this not be out of place in a Simpsons episode?

Joe's On The Road, So ...

I'll take his Vintage Pinup Friday. Submitted for your approval, Lillian Parker (AKA Adrienne Stoute). Miss Parker was an innovator. If you Google her - and you should - you'll quickly notice that she was trimming the infield 40 years before that was an acceptable practice.

Bonus!

Oh Hi Mark

The Room is widely regarded as one of the worst films ever made. (See above clip for proof.) Now, one of the actors, Greg Sestero, has written a book about the experience. The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made won't be out until October, but boy, does is sound like a fun read.

See This Now

Imagine if Bob Dylan had flopped in the States but somehow managed to become as popular as The Beatles in another country, without his knowledge. And then disappeared into obscurity. From the sometimes-reliable Wikipedia:

Searching for Sugar Man is a 2012 Swedish/British documentary directed by Malik Bendjelloul, detailing the efforts of two Cape Town fans, Stephen 'Sugar' Segerman and Craig Bartholomew Strydom, to find out if the rumored death of American musician Rodriguez was true, and, if not, to discover what had become of him. Rodriguez's music, which never took off in the United States, had become wildly popular in South Africa, but little was known about him there. The film is produced by Simon Chinn and John Battsek.

TONIGHT!

The finished cut of Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me sees its Memphis premiere this evening at the 15th annual Indie Memphis Film Festival. Lurker, the missus and I will be in attendance, and I'm just the least little bit excited about it. So far, all reviews have been positive.

Full report to follow!

Yes! Yes! Yes!

UPDATE! As Eric noted, the video's been yanked from YouTube. But you can still see it here.

For now.

Git Yer Woz On!

Then he built it, using scrounged-up parts, soldering them onto a motherboard at his desk at night after work, and writing the code that would link keyboard, disk drive, processor, and monitor. Months later he flipped the switch and it worked. “It was Sunday, June 29, 1975,” Isaacson writes, “a milestone for the personal computer. ‘It was the first time in history,” Wozniak later said, ‘anyone had typed a character on a keyboard and seen it show up on their own computer’s screen right in front of them.’”

Celebrating an iconic geek moment. Stay inside with your hypercooled CPU's today bastards, it's like 105 out there.
