This Is Genius

I have a complaint.

You bastards need to check out The Monkeys You Ordered, a sublime collection of literal New Yorker cartoon captions.

Week Three Weigh In

190.4, a one week loss of 1.6 pounds.

Total weight lost so far, 5 pounds.

My first weigh in was a baseline and not really the first week, so I've adjusted weeks accordingly. I don't feel like I've really sacrificed by reducing my intake of the bad stuff. If anything, it makes me appreciate it more when I do partake.

Eric Stoltz Is Not Funny

Not sure how many of you bastards know this, but Robert Zemeckis shot Back To The Future for five weeks with Eric Stotlz playing Marty McFly.  Stotlz didn't work out and they basically started over, but these clips of the original footage are fascinating ...

Not That You Bastards Care

Portal, Valve's 2007 puzzle game, can only be described as sublime (90/100, Metacritic). I presume the follow-up will be, too ...

Anyway, Valve released this promo video today.

Please Welcome Our New Newest Bastard

Would you also please welcome Matt, frequent lurker, sometime commenter and full-time bastard.

Matt's my brother-in-law, but if his first post sucks, this was all Joe's idea. No pressure.

Up Your ... Alley

From YouTube:
Todd Schorr: American Surreal is the first mid-career retrospective of the Los Angeles-based artist. Schorr is a leading figure in Southern California's cartoon-based movement, dubbed Pop Surrealism, which embraces low-brow culture and a ribald graphic style indebted to pop sources such as Mad magazine. Schorrs astonishing, highly polished realism, (inspired by Bosch, Brueghel and Dali), sets him apart from his best-known peers such as Camille Rose Garcia, Gary Baseman, and Mark Ryden. The exhibition, curated by SJMAs Senior Scholar and Curator of Collections Susan Landauer, is accompanied by a book published by Last Gasp, San Francisco.
Reminds me of Candykiller a bit. Todd Schorr's official site is here. I embedded the playlist from YouTube, so 5 two minute videos should play consecutively.

Impressive

From Edge, the Adobe newsletter:
This impressive promotional site for the world's first cinematic proportion TV is immediately intriguing because users feel like they have been dropped into the middle of a major incident. With "baddies" dressed as clowns and police everywhere, the deliberately slow-moving video experience has numerous hotspots that take the experience to another level. Take a moment to explore everything. You won't be disappointed.
Make sure to click the three vertical blue bars in the time line. Check it out here.

Did I mention it's done in Flash?

Everything Is Just A Few Hundred Clicks Away

I love my iPod, but this dig at Apple's never-ending drive for intuitive simplicity and the cult of "I'll buy anything Apple" is spot-on.

Meshuggah

Not Feeling Terribly Progressive? Maybe you need more Swedish prog-inspired metal:

From Wikipedia:

Meshuggah is a Swedish five-piece experimental metal band from Umeå, known
for their use of extended polymetric passages, complex drum patterns, odd time
signatures, angular, dissonant guitar riffs, and harsh screaming vocals.

Two of thier more critically acclaimed albums, Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere are out there.

World Party

I originally purchased this disc back in 19 and 90, when I was a wee lad of 21. It holds up pretty well, I think.

From the sometimes reliable Wikipedia:
The album was voted Album of the Year by Q magazine in 1990. In 2000, the same magazine placed it at number 94 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever.
For the love of God, won't you Fondue The Pancreas?

Let's Go Outback Tonight!

Thought I recognized this when I first saw the commercial. It's Of Montreal. Good for Kevin Barnes! Making some money off his music! I'm sure some think he's selling out, but I don't get why selling his stuff is a bad thing. Any thoughts from the musicians?
