Working For The Potentate
Fulfilling my duties as Chief Concert Goer and Envy Inducer, or at least the former, I blew off doing my taxes and those work items I needed to catch up on, loaded up on cough syrup, and headed down to see my old friend Jonathan Richman last night. He's so much fun. He sang Pablo Picasso.
I would like to delegate a future assignment to Jay. Austin and the Mothersbaugh project, perhaps.

Amazon Now Doing Streaming Video
Now Amazon Prime members can stream 5,000 movies and television shows to a variety of Internet-ready devices for free! Pretty sweet little bonus feature, to those of us not currently Nexflixing. (Pictured: the sort of real Amazon the site was named for.)

I nominate a new Grand Poobah
I'm not even sure who the current Poobah is, but I'd like to nominate Eric as the new Grand Poobah. I nominate Eric because he probably has the least amount of free time. Eric, if elected, you'll be expected to spend 4-6 hours per day working on the blargh. You also have to sit up nights with Jay if he gets collicky. Any seconds?

Jay recently had the opportunity to narrate this footage of the honey badger. I think you'll agree that honey badger don't care!

Baby Gift for All
I read somewhere about the new Telekinisis CD 12 Desperate Straight Lines. Caught it streaming on NPR's site and loved it. Forget The Pacifier, Simone, check this out!

Now What?
Blog Brethren: Please welcome Simone to the extended bastard family! She arrived late Saturday night 02/12/11 - a valiant day for baby mama - and is our first.
You will all now commence with expert, personal & highly esteemed child-rearing advice. How have you so skillfully guided your own offspring from infants to true Li'l Bastards? Encapsulate the principles into a few memorable, pithy lines for me and for posterity.*
Simone won't say if she's a mod or a rocker. She had intrauterine exposure to high levels of Live McCartney Concert during early gestation, if that helps anyone get a feel for her particular needs.
*[Note: If you have not raised any youngsters, you are not exempt from this charge. You may find it simplest to generalize from techniques employed to nurture a cherished idea, chord progression or small mammal.]
New Radiohead Album
Radiohead have just announced that their new album is complete and will be available this Saturday February 19th!! Sweet.
It's called "The King of Limbs", and it will be available in two formats. You don't get to choose the price this time around though.

World Travel Shenanigans
I love travel. I've been called an idiot more than once. Thus, a new show called "An Idiot Abroad" is right up my alley. It's the brain child of Ricky Gervais. He sends his dim witted buddy Karl on a trip around the world just to put him out of his comfort zone and see what happens. Hilarity ensues and it's on the Science network. Ch-ch-ch-check it...

Tao Of The Dead
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead's newest. It's good. It has synthesizers and a 16 minute track that is in 5 parts. The tracks are listed by letters of the alphabet instead of numbers. There's a 14 page digital book that singer / guitarist Conrad Keely wrote and illustrated (he also did the cover -- again with the talented people). I think I sat next to the girl on page 14 of the book on a plane on my way to ACL a couple of years ago. No, seriously. Buy me a beer someday and I'll tell you about it.

Urge Wha?
Rock & Roll Submarine, the first album by Urge Overkill in 16 or so years (!) is set for release on April 26 of this year. I didn't like the last album, Exit the Dragon so much (it doesn't even have a Wikipedia entry!), but Saturation is still one of my all time faves. Lightning in a Bottle, indeed. Fingers crossed that the new one will have at least some of the old magic.

Week Eight Weigh In
186.4, a one week loss of ... 1.2 pounds.
Total weight lost so far, 9 pounds.
Last week's .2 pound loss kind of freaked me out, so I'm glad to see more coming off again. I got on the scale today because I'm not sure I'm working out tomorrow.
Sound off!

The good folks over at College Humor had lots of free time on their hands, so they took some McBain clips from the Simpsons and stictched them into a short movie. Enjoy.
Reason # 4,532 That I Miss Austin
Austin needs a new name for its Waste Services department, so they thought they'd put out a call for input from the community. Look at the vote totals for the top nomination.

One of my earliest memories
Was always sad for the little orange dude. Nobody's coming to play, my friend, because you're behind a security barrier.
Friday Afternoon In The Universe

I've Got Your Comments Right Here
Background: "Axman13" posted a marginally coherent review of a flash game... and someone went to town with it.
