Let's Bore Jay to Death
The Saints took Mark Ingram in the first round. What does this mean for Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas? I think the Titans were smart taking Jake Locker in the first.
Common People
Most of you will be taking today off to watch the royal wedding coverage, right? Hey, no judgments.
Please to enjoy William Shatner's cover of Pulp's Common People, complete with animated Star Trek.

Who Is John galt? Who Is Interested in This Movie?
I've been chipping away at this book for a few months. Anyone read it? Anyone interested in this flick. It's theme seems pretty relevant these days.
Who Needs An Excuse to Drink?
All this flooding makes me thirsty.
May you Memphians among us be safe and hoisted by your own pontoons amidst the deluge.
Anyone got a favorite beer label? The Ralph Steadman Flying Dog Raging Bitch brew sparked a First Amendment lawsuit.

Let Me See Your Surprised Look
From The New York Times:
When talking about the Tea Party movement, the largest number of respondents said that the movement’s goal should be reducing the size of government, more than cutting the budget deficit or lowering taxes.
And nearly three-quarters of those who favor smaller government said they would prefer it even if it meant spending on domestic programs would be cut.
But in follow-up interviews, Tea Party supporters said they did not want to cut Medicare or Social Security — the biggest domestic programs, suggesting instead a focus on “waste.”
Some defended being on Social Security while fighting big government by saying that since they had paid into the system, they deserved the benefits.
Others could not explain the contradiction.
“That’s a conundrum, isn’t it?” asked Jodine White, 62, of Rocklin, Calif. “I don’t know what to say. Maybe I don’t want smaller government. I guess I want smaller government and my Social Security.” She added, “I didn’t look at it from the perspective of losing things I need. I think I’ve changed my mind.”

You should probably all move here.

Here We Rest
Jason Isbell's third solo effort continues the melodic Americana tradition of his first two with some Muscle Shoals soul thrown in. Like his first two, this is a pretty mixed bag, with a couple of sublime moments ("Codeine"), but still too many tepid shufflers ("Stopping By"). I've enjoyed it so far, but still feel like I'm waiting for a breakthrough from Isbell as a solo artist and am beginning to wonder if he lacks some versatility in his songwriting and is showing some limitations in his singing. Nice album art, though... Flee The Past.

Ladies and Gentlemen....The Rolling Stones!
I guess reading the Keef book got me all in a dither over the Stones again. My appreciation is actually much greater after reading the book. Tough to touch that quartet of defining albums (Beggar's, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile) that helped them get away from trying to follow the currents of pop music and get back to being the blues band they started out as, but I can find some charm in just about every release, especially the oft-maligned It's Only Rock and Roll. Any requests?

Jeff Buckley Biopic in the Works
They're still lining up financing, so it's not even clear that the movie will actually happen. I guess they're in that nebulous period known as "pre-production," which means they're definitely planning to maybe do it if they can. Hard to believe it's been 14 years since his death.

Low Anthem
Can't stop listening to this, although one of the YouTube commenters is right -- it does make the rest of the album crap in comparison.

People, Let Me Get This Off My Chest
What's better than an entire album's worth of Paul Stanley's stage banter? That's right, nothing. Nothing is better than an album's worth of Paul Stanley's stage banter.
File Transfer Protocol, whatever that means.
Glutton for Punishment
Heading to the Big Easy again this weekend for a wedding. It also happens to be French Quarter Fest. I'm still not 100% from Mardi Gras. Heeelppp....
Getting Into The Jam
Never made a Get My Taxes Done compilation -- but I think this Electric Six song goes on the next motivational mix.

Hedgehog - Wink
I've been checking out some popular Chinese indie/whatever rock (Hedgehog, Carsick Cars)... so that when the Far East-roamin' Bastard gives us his blow-your-mind Chinese Power Pop Mix, I won't be a total ignoramus.
The Western influence is evident, right down to the uh, language.

Can't Wait
Any of you discerning tastemakers fans of Dark Shadows from back in the day? I've never seen an episode, but I pre-love the Tim Burton film version, just starting production.

Raptor Resource Project
Live streaming video by Ustream
Got hooked recently on the live eagle feed from Raptor Resource Project, which specializes in the preservation of falcons, eagles, ospreys, hawks and owls. The live feed is from a nest in Iowa. Two eaglets hatched over the weekend and a third is due soon. The second video above is of the first eaglet. You can clearly see him rocking out. More info about the nest and eagles here.

Terry Jones on the Amazing Flying Penguins
The Beeb actually fell for this one! One of the best April Fool's ever.
The Denzil, The Ben Folds
So here are two albums that make my top 10 list of ALL TIME. That means that I LOVE them.
The Denzil album is probably the one I've turned the most people on to (I'm pretty sure I've posted it here before). It is just the best: melodies, amazing lyrics, great production, and tons of fun for Anglophiles (Jay). EVERY track is awesome, but standouts include 'Fat Loose Fancies Me', 'Useless', 'Funnymoon', 'Cutie', and.......well every single one.
I'm also a big Ben Folds fan, especially his solo stuff. It's all been good, but his solo debut is his most consistent. Pardon me if I'm preaching to the choir, but if you haven't given it a chance, listen to this one two or three times in a row. I DARE you to find a love song as beautiful as 'The Luckiest'.
