Have we gone over this before?

I can't recall if we've 'discussed' the New Pornographers. If not, Finally There's Plans to do so. Great pop and Neko Case features throughout, which should put Joe on board at least.

Happy Christmas, Bastards

The sometimes annual Xmas mix is up. Faster Than Prancer, easily.

The Walkmen

Remember when the Walkman came out, and we said "Finally, Tunes Portable!" Here is the newest by the inestimable Walkmen, and Pitchfork and the AV Club are saying things that are just as great - "Best New Music," and "a masterpiece."

Grinderman 2 is also released today, but alas, not in electronic format. It is steaming over on Myspace, though, and it's awesome.

I heard this on some French station I found on iTunes last week and it's been stuck in my head ever since. You live with it for awhile ...

Whip It Good!

This is evidently where Devo got the idea for the 'Whip It' video. It's pretty bad.

Pocket Theremin

Jay needs this Gakken Theremin Premium for the Subteens electro-jazz-funk rebirth. It's less than $200, but the instructions are in Japanese, so it may take some time to figure out how to play it.

Modern Guilt

Beck's latest, out since June of this year, is excellent. Some of the sonic experimentation that is evident on every Beck release, but lots of great melodies as well. It is definitely my fave since Sea Change. Do you like Beck? Follow Those Pretzels!

The Hold Steady Almost Killed Scarlett Johansson

The Hold Steady live from Emo's (Austin, of course). New album in July. Playing Carrboro, NC (wherever the hell that is) August 12. Scarlett Johansson is hot. Femininas Tatas Poderosas!

let your boyfriend come from the right kind of school
you can wear his old sweatshirt
you can cover yourself like a bruise

Hmmm...

I just wrote "provides observable student on student interaction, and ... " in my dissertation. Kind of lost my train of thought after that.

Half Man Half Biscuit

This is one of my favorite odd Christmas songs: All I want for Christmas is a Dukla Prague Away Kit. The band is Half Man Half Biscuit. Possibly incomprehensible to non-Brits (and not only because of the poor quality of this video), the title and the bulk of the song refer to Subbuteo, which was a table soccer game popular in the 70's and 80's. I assume that Scalextric made it over here though.
