Stereogum's list of bands that called it shits this year. I've only heard of a half dozen or so of them, and really only gave a toss about one (and it's not REM).
What's the half-life of a band breakup? Who else went to GBV's Farewell Tour in 2004?
I loves my Stripes, but J.White is in eight different other bands and lives here in town; I can still get my fix. Haven't made an R.E.M. purchase in years and [CONFESSION] I never liked Sonic Youth as much as an indie hipster is supposed to. Never heard of "Gay for Johnny Depp" but that's the best band name here.
Didn't know that about Sonic Youth. That was some long run.
