Shit

I clearly didn't know much about Soupy Sales. For example, did you know his sons, Hunt and Tony were the back half of Tin Machine?

  1. I actually did know that. Chris Mars namechecked Soupy on one of his songs on 'Horseshoes and Handgrenades': 'There's Purple spots on Soupy Sales'. I think it was on the song Better Days.

  2. Some humor, I suppose, is generational. I never thought he was funny. And my musical ignorance is such a given, I don't mind admitting that I don't know who Tin Machine is.

But I did know Hunt and Tony were its back half, so clearly you suck.

  3. Tin Machine was Bowie's band in the late eighties - early nineties. Probably their best known song was a real stomper called "Under the God." You can watch it here.

The Sales brothers also worked quite a bit with Iggy in the seventies.

  4. I guess I should also mention that Bowie preferred the anonymity of being in a band after he ran his solo career into the ground, chasing popular tastes in the eighties.
