Cut the Crap is a bit of an easy target. I nominate Conbat Rock, which, despite the excellent Straight to Hell, is one of my most-loathed albums of all time.
I also don't care for Sgt. Pepper. There, I said it.
'Face Dances' by The Who is pretty horrible. There's a few Townshend solo albums I could throw in there ('Psychoderelict' + 'Iron Man' = ack)
Tom Petty's 'Let Me Up, I've Had Enough' made me say I'd had enough of Tom Petty for quite a few years.
I like 'Hootenanny.' For me, it was always 'All Shook Down' that was a disappointment to me, though it's grown on me some over the years. I know you disagree with that, Jay, but you're wrong as usual.
Hootenanny, to me, sounds like a long joke that never gets to the punchline, although I do like some of the songs - "Color Me Impressed" comes to mind.
And while I disagree about Sgt. Pepper Andy, I will agree that Billy Shears just couldn't cut it as a Beatle.
While I don't find Sgt. Pepper's to be terrible by any stretch, I always reach for Revolver, Rubber Soul, or the White Album before it. If Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane had been on Sgt. Pepper, it would be stone classic.
I'm on board with Goodbye Cruel World and Make Believe. Dirty Work is another good one, but has some competition among the Stones later stuff. This is harder than I'd have thought!

ReplyDeleteFor Costello, "Goodbye Cruel World" is a badly recorded and produced album of great songs (the acoustic demos prove it).
Urge Overkill's follup to "Saturation" is one of the worst albums ever issued.
