That Time of Year

I'm trying to come up with my top 5 records for this year. The one thing I've noticed is that the list of albums that I really wanted to get my hands on, but lacked funds to purchase and/or easy access to a record store (just can't get used to the buying music on the innerwebs thing) to find is longer than the list of albums I bought and LOVEd. So here's my list of my favorites that I got and favorites that I wish I got. had got. had gotten.

Top five (or so) of 07:

1. Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
2. The National - Boxer
3. Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga GA
4. Grinderman - Grinderman
5. Bruce Springsteen - Magic
5. Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger
5. Rilo Kiley - Under the Blacklight

Top five I wish I had acquired in 07:
1. Bright Eyes - Cassadaga
2. Thurston Moore - Trees Outside the Academy (I think that's what it's called)
3. New Pornographers - Challengers
4. Band of Horses - Cease to Begin
5. Ween - Cucaracha
5. Lucinda Williams - West
5. I'm Not There Soundtrack

  1. Love the repetitive 5s!

My mind doesn't really do annual segmentation well. Was Hissing Fauna '07 or '06? Spoon would certainly make my list, too. I guess I can't count Flop since I only discovered them in '07. Have to pick Decemberists' Crane's Wife too, along with M. Ward's.

    2) Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

  3. Speaking of Wilco, I Fingered the Pope the Sky Blue Sky EP that came out recently. One new track and a couple of live offerings. Worth a listen.

  4. I can't explain it, but the last couple of NIN CDs have really gotten their hooks into me. I'm as surprised as you are, as I used to HATE Trent Reznor.

    T'anks for the Wilco.

  6. Was "Thruston" a Freudian slip? And have we been hipped to the Supercarters yet? I don't recall you mentioning them before.

  8. For what it's worth, I hear the new New Pornos isn't up to snuff.

  9. Can we please not talk about snuff pornos, you sick fuck?

  10. Snuff pornos is not as good as the last couple of snuff pornos. I can't wait til someone googles that! Yes please on the Radiohead. And Joe, thanks for picking up on the enigmatic Supercarters mention. The Supercarters is a band I play guitar for, whose members currently live in 1)Asheville, NC, 2) Durham, NC and 3) New Orleans, LA. I'll make a post for the new album in the next two days. Then, you send me cash money for being so great.
