I'm working under the assumption that this just means covers and not necessarily the music. Man, it's hard to pick just ten ...
Big Star - #1 Record Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico KISS - Rock And Roll Over AC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking Pink Floyd - Meddle Sid Vicious - Sid Sings The Beatles - Abbey Road The Damned - Damned Damned Damned Stones - Beggars Banquet
I never would have thought of Endless Summer, All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes, Man From Utopia, Highway 61 Revisited or Tattoo You. (But I wish I had ...)
I feel compelled to say thanks, although my only input on the cover was to commission it. Mike McCarthy is one amazingly talented mofo. Now that I think about it, he didn't even need us to sit for him; we were drawn from memory.
And I meant Big Star's Radio City, although #1 Record is pretty cool, too.
Yeah, Jay used to have a poster of Loverboy's "Get Lucky" on his wall when we were roomies in Memphis. Once I caught him with a bandana on his head singing "Working for the Weekend" into a hairbrush.

I would like to add the Subteens cover to my list, even though it was only a puny CD cover.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, and "Get Your Ya-Yas Out." That's a great one as well.
ReplyDeleteHad to look a few of these up, some dandies for sure. And if you guys get to add the Subteens, then I do too. Cardigan is a fantastic cover!
