What Are the 4 Best Books You Read in 2008?

I choose 4, since 4 books that I read last year really stand out, and also because that's how many books Jay read last year. Mine:

Atonement - Ian McEwen

Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro

The Crossing - Cormac McCarthy

Watchmen - Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons

4 comments:

  1. White Teeth - Zadie Smith
The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night Time - Mark Haddon
American Pastoral/The Plot Against America - Phillip Roth
    Gabriel's Gift - Hanif Kureishi

    Honorable mention:
    The Sea - John Banville
The House of the Seven Gables - Nathaniel Hawthorne

  2. I didn't get a helluva lot of reading in this year, but the one that stood out:

    Goshawk Squadron - Derek Robinson
Our Band Could Be Your Life - Michael Azzerad
All Over but the Shouting - An Oral History of the Replacements
When You Are Engulfed in Flames - David Sedaris
The Omnivore's Dilemma - Michael Pollan

I'm reading Matthiessen's 'Shadow Country' now. I should finish it in time for this year's best of list.

  3. I just ordered The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time and I'm intrigued by Goshawk Squadron.

  4. Although it pains me to admit I have anything in common with Joe, I didn't read as much as I would have liked, either.

The Replacements: All Over But The Shouting - Jim Walsh
Truck: A Love Story - Michael Perry
The Dark Stuff - Nick Kent
The Life And Times of the Thunderbolt Kid - Bill Bryson
